About Faith
Little Faith showed up at our door on January 30th, 2021 during a typical Toledo snowy day. She was found by some Good Samaritans on the side of the road who immediately knew she needed help. Faith, a miniature smooth haired dachshund, was 4 weeks old when she arrived but something was not quite right. Her left eye appeared to be missing and her right eye was partially obscured by the 3rd eyelid. She was healthy and happy otherwise but certainly would not have survived in the cold at her age or with her vision issues.
Toledo Animal Rescue met with ophthalmologists at Blue Pearl in Springfield, Michigan to get an expert opinion regarding her eyes and long term course of action. Her diagnosis: Microphthalmia and Entropion in both eyes with the left more severe than the right. Microphthalmia is an eye abnormality that arises before birth. In this condition, one or both eyeballs are abnormally small. Entropion is a condition in which the eyelid turns inward so that that skin rubs against the eye surface causing irritation and vision impairment.
Faith had surgery on both eyes on May 11, 2021. The left eye (which has no functional vision) was removed and the right 3rd eyelid will be repaired to allow for vision in that eye. The total cost of the surgeries and follow up care was $3,500. Her medical costs were completely funded by donations, and we even received enough to help additional animals. Which was the start of Faith's Fund!
Faith is an amazing dog who is not letting her disability stop her. She was adopted by a local business owner and now has a big sister, Pepper Steak, and has no problem holding her own during playtime. She gets around pretty well, relying on her other senses and a little help from her 2 legged friends. We regularly receive updates from Faith's wonderful adopters on how well she's doing!
All donations received through Faith's Fund will be set aside at the Rescue for future dogs or cats needing extensive medical care.
